"To Leave the Game Better Than We Found It."

Two-time National League Baseball MVP Dale Murphy launched this foundation with the intent to eliminate steroids and other illegal performance enhancing drugs from the world of sports.  Our mission is to bring together the best minds and most influential problem solvers to focus on practical, effective measures that can be taken to get all young people between 5th and 12th grade to make the pledge to not cheat in sports, in the classroom or in life.  As we have implemented this program around the country we have found that sports is the perfect ‘vehicle’ to teach these impressionable young people the timeless values of integrity, commitment, and healthy living.

The IWC platform gives pro athletes and other celebrities the opportunity to challenge these young people to live their lives the right way.  It seems that the nightly news is now filled with dishonest examples coming at our children from all directions: political, corporate, entertainment, religious, sports, etc…no industry is exempt from the corruption. We are very excited to have the opportunity to influence these young people in a positive way.

At the 2007 Clinton Global Initiative we made an official commitment to teach, to encourage, and to commit 5,000,000 youth athletes to make the choice not to cheat.  The Little League Organization will be launching the IWC program on ESPN during the 2008 LL World Series in August.  We continue our efforts to bring together other youth programs, governments, corporations, and professional sports leagues to jointly invest in youth sports.

Since the Clinton Global Initiative our scope has expanded to include all classrooms across the United States.  It is amazing to watch the impact that our IWC team of celebrities has on students as they discuss sports, ethics, drugs, and healthy alternatives to cheating.  Until now, nobody has come up with a resolution to the illegal drug abuse in professional sports or the endless list of scandals that we see in the news.  This foundation is the resolution and its power comes as we attack the root of the problem.  We are looking to get a specific commitment from each participant about how you will promote ethical behavior in sports, in the classroom, and in life.
